Jeter des ponts, nouer des liens entre poètes et plasticiens a toujours été au cœur du travail de notre galerie et de grandes voix poétiques ont été accompagnées au fil des ans par de grands artistes dont gravures ou peintures se sont accordées à leurs mots.
Mais l’exposition qui ouvre fin septembre est quasi d’un autre ordre alors que l’artiste qui accompagne le poète, Rachid Koraïchi – artiste majeur exposé dans le monde entier et poète lui-même – est de ceux dont la démarche militante puise aux sources d’un patrimoine artistique et spirituel exceptionnel. Il use d’un lexique visuel inédit, d’une symbolique toute personnelle, de la couleur parfois, du bleu et de l’or le plus souvent, et d’une somme impressionnante de matériaux et de techniques.
Ses œuvres, souvent monumentales, souvent sérielles, ont été montrées sur tous les continents et font partie des plus grandes collections publiques. Quant à ses installations et ses jardins mémoriels, ils témoignent de la vision et de l’engagement d’un artiste bâtisseur, d’un grand humaniste dont la démarche militante puise aux sources d’un patrimoine artistique et spirituel exceptionnel.
C’est un ensemble significatif de sculptures corten qui sera présenté dans l’espace de la galerie tandis que gravures et lithographies seront exposées aux cimaises répondant aux dessins originaux réalisés par l’artiste pour accompagner et enrichir le recueil du poète Habib Tengour « Désertée » qui sort dans la collection bibliophilique de la galerie. Une collaboration qui s’inscrit dans la longue liste des poètes, de René Char à Mahmoud Darwisch, dont Rachid Koraïchi a interrogé les textes et avec lesquels il a tissé des liens.
Poète, écrivain et anthropologue, Habib Tengour s’exprime tant en prose que par le poème et développe une écriture qui oscille entre surréalisme et souffle lyrico-épique de la tradition poétique arabe. Il mêle les époques et les lieux, les noms illustres et sa propre biographie. Habib Tengour est l’un des grands auteurs maghrébins de langue française. Il a publié près d’une trentaine de livres, reçu de nombreux et prestigieux prix. Il est traduit en allemand, anglais, arabe, italien, néerlandais et traduit lui-même des poètes de langue anglaise et américaine (il est le traducteur de l’Américano-Luxembourgeois Pierre Joris) et de langue arabe. Il a lancé en 2018 la première collection algérienne entièrement consacrée à la création poétique plurilingue (avec version française) « Poèmes du Monde ».

Building bridges and links between poets and visual artists has always been at the heart of our gallery’s work, and great poetic voices have been accompanied over the years by great artists whose engravings or paintings have harmonised with their words.
But the exhibition that opens at the end of September is almost of a different order, as the artist who accompanies the poet, Rachid Koraïchi – a major artist exhibited throughout the world and a poet himself – is one whose militant approach draws on the sources of an exceptional artistic and spiritual heritage. He uses a new visual lexicon, a very personal symbolism, colour sometimes, blue and gold most often, and an impressive array of materials and techniques.
His works, which are often monumental and often serial, have been shown on all continents and are held amid the largest public collections. As for his installations and memorial gardens, they testify to the vision and commitment of a artist who strives to build: a great humanist whose militant approach draws on the sources of an exceptional artistic and spiritual heritage.
A significant set of corten sculptures will be presented in the gallery space, while engravings and lithographs will be exhibited on the walls, in response to the original drawings made by the artist to accompany and enhance the collection “Désertée” by the poet Habib Tengour, which is released as part of the gallery’s bibliophilic collection. It is a collaboration that is part of the long list of poets, from René Char to Mahmoud Darwish, whose texts Rachid Koraïchi has explored and with whom he has forged links.
A poet, writer and anthropologist, Habib Tengour expresses himself both in prose and poetry and develops a style of writing that oscillates between surrealism and the lyrico-epic voice of the Arab poetic tradition. He mixes times and places, illustrious names and his own biography. Habib Tengour is one of the great French-speaking Maghrebian authors. He has published nearly thirty books and received numerous prestigious awards. His work has been translated into German, English, Arabic, Italian and Dutch and he himself translates British and American Anglophone poets (he is the translator of the American-Luxembourgish Pierre Joris), as well as Arabic-language poets. In 2018, he launched the first Algerian collection entirely devoted to multilingual poetic creation (with a French version) “Poèmes du Monde”.
